The Victim Service Center of Central Florida has teamed up with the City of Orlando Police Department and University of Central Florida Victim Services to host a series of trainings called BarTAB Orlando. Through this partnership, we will be training bartenders, bouncers, and wait staff on active bystander intervention in effort to reduce sexual violence among patrons. The BarTAB training has been researched, developed, and implemented in other parts of the country and has been highly praised for educating bar staff on reducing sexual violence in bar establishments.
We are asking local bars, restaurants, and nightclubs to:
- Commit to reducing sexual violence in our community
- Allow us to train their staff on active bystander intervention
- Lead the community through this initiative
- Pledge to provide this training to the majority of their staff
According to a National study conducted in 2007, “The highest rape risk situation for both adult women and college women is not being rendered intoxicated and incapacitated by others; it is being taken advantage by a sexual predator after she has become intoxicated voluntarily.” We hope that through this partnership, the Central Florida bars, restaurants, and nightclubs will take the necessary steps to protect their patrons.
